The Highlands region contains many species of plants and wildlife at risk of extinction, and has been called an “ecosystem of national significance”.
The Highlands is a critical connecting corridor for wildlife that travel along the Appalachian Mountains.
Over time, and in places, growth and development have impacted parts of the Highlands, but it remains a “treasured landscape” critical to the health and well-being of residents of the region and surrounding cities and communities.
The gallery below demonstrates the amazing diversity of landscapes that make up The Highlands.
